Mind-Body Medicine

Journaling
Writing about stressful events transfers repressed thoughts from the unconscious to the conscious level, where they can be organized and controlled. It is proven that through this process the physical and mental health improves.

“The sorrow that hath no vent in tears may make other organs weep.”

- Dr. William Boyd, Pathologist from the 19th century

Healing through Forgiveness

There is a strong relationship between traumatic experiences and the emergence of physical and mental health problems. Scientific research has proved that forgiving past wrongs can be helpful for a variety of health problems, including anxiety, depression, substance abuse, and chronic pain.  When we focus on forgiving our blood pressure drops, and our heart rate slows down. Our mood improves.

·       Forgiveness can alter the state of our health.

·       Forgiveness is a transformation and a path to freedom.  The key is to release suffering and increase inner peace and understanding.

·       Forgiveness is, first and foremost, done for the person doing the forgiving.

Recommending Meditation
Various practices of meditation are rooted in the world's great religious traditions.  Medical science has integrated meditation into the treatment of many conditions for its universal physical, mental, and spiritual benefits.

“Meditation is about stopping and being present. That is all.”

-Jon Kabat Zin

Breathing Exercises

Learning and using proper breathing techniques is one of the most beneficial things that one can do for both short and long-term physical and emotional health. We can use the breath to stimulate relaxation.

Prescribing Relaxation Techniques
Relaxation techniques are tools that will help balance the effects of stress on our body.

“I find, by experience, that the mind and the body are more than married, for they are most intimately united; and when one suffers, the other sympathizes.”

-Lord Chesterfield
